Obituary

EDWARD M. “OBIE” OBRINGER, age 90, of Piqua, went home to be with the Lord at 5:05 P.M. on Monday March 13, 2017 at Brookdale of Piqua.  He was born in Van Wert, OH on February 21, 1927 to the late Carl E. and Emma (Mosgrove) Obringer, Sr.  He married Mary J. Attenweiler on January 5, 1957 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Troy, OH.  She preceded him in death on March 10, 1998.

Obie is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Thomas M. (Ann) Obringer, New Carlisle, OH John A. (Jack) (Shanda) Obringer, Piqua, OH; three daughters and sons-in-law: Julie (Chuck) Allen, Piqua, Margie (David) Goodin, Brookville, OH and Katie Obringer, Piqua; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one brother and sister-in-law: Thomas J. (Jan) Obringer, Westerville, Oh; two sisters and brother-in-law: Rosemary Ehret, Canton, OH, Agnes (Paul) Weinand, Cheverly, MD. Two brothers-in-law: Jim McKale and Vern Sweiterman. He was preceded in death by one brother: Carl Obringer Jr. and three sisters: Patricia McKale, Elizabeth Berning, Kathleen Sweiterman.

Obie graduated from Hoaglin-Jackson High School, Van Wert, OH in 1945.  He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Piqua and the Piqua Knights of Columbus.  Obie proudly served his country as a member of the US Army during WW II.  He worked at S. Zollinger Co. in Piqua from 1953 – 1959.  Obie was also a store manager for Piqua Lumber for 30 years before retiring in 1989.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday March 17, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Piqua with the Rev. Fr. Thomas Bolte as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua with full military honors by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Calling hours will be Thursday 5-7 P.M. at MELCHER-SOWERS FUNERAL HOME, Piqua. A prayer service will be held at 7 P.M. in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Brookdale Hospice 280 Walden Way Dayton, OH 45440.
