Obituary

CORY R. “DUKE PUMMILL” NEWBERRY, age 68, of Piqua, OH went to be with the Lord at 11:03 PM on Thursday May 18, 2017 at Piqua Manor Nursing Home. He was born on December 29, 1948 to the late Harriet D.J. (Warner) Mercer.

Cory is survived by one sister: Ruthanna (Douglas) (Pummill) Hamilton, Lexington, KY; one brother: Harold “Doc” (Mary) Pummill, Piqua, OH; one sister-in-law: Susanne Pummill, Piqua, OH; four nieces: Kimberly Williams, Piqua, OH, Nichol Lauderback, DeGraff, OH, Jena Hamilton, Lexington, KY, Kara Ammerman, Louisville, KY; three nephews: Brian Pummill, Norway, Christopher Pummill, Germantown, OH, and Kevin Hamilton, Lexington, KY; many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother: William T. Pummill and his step father Fred E. Mercer.

Cory graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1968. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Piqua. He was a maintenance man in several hospitals, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Piqua for many years and also Evenflo in Piqua for 16 years.

He proudly served his country as a medic in the U.S. Army for two years and U.S. Air Force for four years.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday May 23, 2017 from 5-8 PM at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua, OH. A prayer service will be held at 5:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County P.O. Box 502 Troy, Ohio 45373. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.melcher-sowers.com.
