Camilla H. Smith
OVA CAMILLA H. SMITH, age 98 of Piqua, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday April 12, 2017 at 1:40 A.M. at Brookdale of Piqua. She was born on January 1, 1919 in Pope County to the late Thomas J Hankins and Elsie (Dickey) Hankins. She married Richard S. Smith on August 1, 1945 in Conway, Ark. He adored her and preceded her in death on March 1, 2012.
Camilla is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas S and Sue Ellen Smith of Piqua, OH. One of seven children, she is also survived by her brother: Don T. Hankins, Pelsor, one sister: Hazel (Ralph) Jones, Atlanta, Ga.; and was preceded in death by her brother: Jim Hankins, Jasper, and three sisters: Shirley Holt, Willie Williams, and Pauline Curtis Sowell.
She was raised at Pelsor, where her parents owned the Hankins General Store and ran the Post Office. She graduated from Deer High School, attended Oklahoma State University and assisted her father in the Hankins Family Store and the post office at Pelsor for several years. As the oldest sister, Camilla helped raise her siblings and continued instructing them throughout her life. Camilla was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Fairborn, OH, and also belonged to the Fairborn Arts Association. She was a talented artist and loved to paint floral scenes with acrylic colors and make custom jewelry. She was a wonderful knitter and did copper enameling for many years and was a loving homemaker.
A graveside service will be held Friday April 21, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Russellville Oakland Cemetery, Russellville, Arkansas with Father Joseph Tharakan officiating.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua.
